Tips and information for facilitating the operation of the lineTight

Easy handling of lineTight

Operating the lineTight is due to its logical and simple construction mostly selfexplanatory and quite foolproof. But handling of highly tensioned longlines (beyond 8-9 kN / 800 kg), though, is alone from a technical pint of view a challenge to gear and man. In order to avoid potentially dangerous situations it is therefore necessary to observe some basic safety instructions.

Even if the actual operation and use should be a breeze with help of the operating instructions, there are still a few tips and hints which make handling a bit easier in some situations. These are listed here for you...

Please always observe the saftey instructions and warnings in the manual!

Notes about the little black selection switch!

Some customers have expressed concern and asked us "How can I switch to the detension position without my chain shooting out of the device when I turn the black switch over the 0 position (chain freewheel)?". Answer: the position of the switch merely determines in which direction the lever connects to the gear. Even in the middle position freewheeling of the chain is ONLY active when the brake is released (without load). The position of the black switch has nothing to do with the load-bearing mechanics of the device.

  • Moving the black selection switch has no influence at all on the brake action!
  • It is safe to move the black selection switch at any given time to any position.

A note about the braking system!

  • It is by design impossible for the lineTight's brake to come unlocked on its own and release the chain. Loosening of the brake occurs ONLY while the lever is turned counterclockwise when the selection switch is set to the right position. The brake fully blocks immediately and automatically as soon as the movement of the lever is stopped (i.e. when let go).

And now for the tips and tricks...

Information about chain freewheeling (pulling chain freely through):

  • Chain freewheeling is activated by moving the black selection switch to the middle position.
  • The chain can only be pulled through when the lever is hanging free (lineTight must hang by the load strap). If the device is held by the handle the movement of the chain is blocked.
  • If the chain is pulled too fast during freewheeling the brake might get activated inadvertently. In this case pulling on the chain must be stopped and the brake must be unlocked by turning on the small black handwheel. General rule: during chain freewheeling pull the chain slowly!

A helpful tip for packaging/stowage of the lineTight:

  • If necessary to ease stowing or to save some space when packing, it is possible to detach the handle from the device. For this, unscrew the hex-nut inside the black handwheel with a No.13 wrench, remove the black handwheel and detach the lever by racking it back and fourth. ATTENTION: IT IS IMPORTANT to reattach the the black wheel and nut afterward to refrain the small golden locking-shim from falling off! This locking-shim must be positioned exactly as it was (do NOT reposition!!!). Should it fall out the brake system MUST be recalibrated BEFORE the next use!
